TALAWA TECHNIQUE EDUCATION

Talawa- technique (Caribbean and african dance technique) 1 year education, is a challenging, inspiring and diverse dance education with a focus on Caribbean and African dance styles, including traditional (classical), folk (stylized), and modern forms.

 

 

Theory classes as well as technical dance classes:

 

The education acknowledges that in order to become great at what one does, talent and technical skill will not be enough. There is need of a sense of history, purpose, intent and continuity. Tabanka offers a diverse, expansive, and rounded theoretical, and historical curricula, designed to grant just these elements to the seeking dancer. History, anthropology and dance meets in multimedia, in order to enlighten the students, and grant insight.

 

 

Theoretical classes focuses on:

 

    * Dancehall culture and dance
    * Roots of the dancehall moves, music and techniques (kumina, junkanno etc)
    * Calypso and soca culture and dance
    * Roots of Calypso and Soca
    * African roots of Caribbean dancing.
    * Other roots of Caribbean dancing (Indian, arowak, European)
    * Essence of African dance (common denominators).
    * Essence of Caribbean dance
    * TT-Tech theory
    * Carreer  management
    * Anatomy and body awareness
    * Teaching pedagogy
    * Choreography in theory

 

Course Objectives

The students are to gain international level competence within and knowledge of dance and movement involving African and Caribbean dance technique.
